Colorado & Canyon HMI Replacement Guide (2015-2018)

Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon mid-size trucks use the same HMI modules as their full-size counterparts, but in a more compact package. If your mid-size truck’s screen failed, the replacement process is identical.

Which Model Years Use Which HMI

2015 Colorado/Canyon: HMI 2.0 (no CarPlay)
2016-2018 Colorado/Canyon: HMI 2.5 (with CarPlay/Android Auto)

2020+ received a major refresh with potentially different infotainment. Contact WAMS with your VIN to confirm system type.

RPO Codes for Mid-Size Trucks

Colorado and Canyon offer IO levels like their full-size counterparts:

  • IO4: Base 4″ screen (work truck, rarely fails)
  • IO5: 7″ or 8″ mid-level (most common)
  • IO6: 8″ with factory nav and premium audio (up-level)

Find your RPO code in glove box or door jamb. See our RPO guide for details.

Colorado ZR2 & Off-Road Performance

The Colorado ZR2 is an off-road performance variant with upgraded suspension and traction control. It uses identical infotainment to other 2015-2018 Colorados. Off-road driving doesn’t specifically cause HMI failure, but rough terrain + vibration + heat can accelerate general wear on electronics.

Compact Truck Installation

HMI location and replacement process are essentially identical to full-size trucks. Module is behind glove box, installation takes 20-30 minutes. See our complete installation guide.

Upgrading to 2.5 with CarPlay

If you have a 2015 Colorado/Canyon with HMI 2.0, consider upgrading to 2.5 when the old module fails. You’ll gain CarPlay/Android Auto and a modern system. WAMS provides complete upgrade kits for most 2015 Colorados/Canyons. Contact with your VIN to confirm.
