Can I upgrade to 2.5 if I have 2015 with 2.0?

Full-size GM SUVs on the K2 platform share the same HMI module family as Silverado/Sierra. If your Tahoe, Suburban, or Yukon screen failed, the fix is the same: HMI module replacement.

Which Model Years Use Which HMI

2015 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon: HMI 2.0 (no CarPlay)
2016-2020 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon: HMI 2.5 (CarPlay/Android Auto)

2015-2020 Escalade: HMI 2.0 (2015) or HMI 2.5 (2016+) with Cadillac CUE interface

K2 Platform and HMI Failures

The K2 platform (2015-2020 large SUVs) is identical mechanically to K2 pickups in terms of infotainment. The HMI module sits behind the glove box on SUVs just like pickups. Failure rates are similar, though SUVs spend more time parked in garages, which may reduce some thermal stress.

RPO Codes for SUVs

Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon use the same RPO codes as their truck counterparts:

IO5: 8″ standard touchscreen (most common)
IO6: 8″ with factory navigation and premium audio

Escalade uses a different RPO range due to Cadillac CUE interface, but the underlying HMI module is compatible.

Rear Seat Entertainment (RSE) Interaction

Tahoe, Suburban, and Escalade often come with rear seat entertainment screens. These are separate systems from the front HMI, but both share the MOST bus (fiber optic network).

If your front screen is black but RSE still works: HMI module is dead, but MOST bus and RSE are fine.
If both front and RSE are dead: Could be HMI, MOST bus failure, or power issue.
